Additional Information
There's a particular kind of stuck when you're with a couple — or an individual talking through their relationship challenges: you're out of moves, out of questions, quietly wondering if you're even cut out for this work. That feeling may have a name — the Impostor Phenomenon — and it shows up more in couples work than almost anywhere else. In three hours, we'll explore the why, maybe even trace it back to its origins, and give you a pathway out of the dynamic — to level up your couples work, or find a reason to start seeing couples for the first time.
Bonus: understand why your own romantic partnership can challenge you in similar ways.
Learning Objectives
- Define the Impostor Phenomenon and identify two potential clinical expressions in relationship work.
Describe the potential origins of the Impostor Phenomenon in couples therapists, including the parentified child.
- Apply at least two concrete in-session strategies for returning responsibility to the couple and interrupting the dynamic.
- Understand a Relational Paradigm as a new way to see what is happening the Space-Between a couple.
