Ian Tomlinson, M.Ed., is an Advanced Imago Clinician, Workshop Presenter, and Supervisor based in Manchester, England. As a UKCP registered Psychotherapist, Ian integrates his expertise in Transactional Analysis and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with Imago Relationship Therapy, creating a rich, multifaceted approach to working with couples and individuals.

Ian’s passion lies in bringing couples closer together and helping them move from destructive patterns toward connection and joy. His training philosophy is built on a foundation of safety, support, and skill development. He believes in creating rich, safe learning environments where trainees can push their comfort zones while receiving encouragement and constructive feedback that honours their existing knowledge and experience. Ian’s approach combines substantial theory with extensive practice opportunities, ensuring therapists know exactly what to do and why they are doing it when working with couples.

As Co-Director of The Affinity Centre in Manchester, Ian has created a vibrant hub for therapy, training, and supervision. He delivers the complete Clinical Training program in Imago Relationship Therapy through an accessible, step-by-step structure that allows therapists to progress at their own pace. His training emphasizes practical application—each afternoon session includes significant time devoted to practicing skills with peers and receiving feedback in a supportive environment.

Ian is an active leader in the Imago community, serving as Treasurer for Imago UK. He spreads the Imago message through presenting workshops at psychotherapy conferences and delivering the internationally recognized “Getting the Love You Want” couples workshops.
