GTLYW Workshop Presenter Training: Permissions and Requirements
This course provides Advanced Clinicians with the knowledge and skills to present the Getting the Love You Want workshop. The course is devoted to personal growth work to help participants move beyond their blocks and limitations to become the most present and connected presenters.
It will consist of sharing the theory, illustrating with personal stories, delivering brilliant demonstrations, and handling the many challenges of being a first-class Imago workshop presenter.
Take your Imago knowledge and experience to a whole new level and experience the joy of presenting this material to couples in a way that inspires them and makes them even more available to take this work home.
Think back to your Imago Workshop participation and remember the profound effect the presenter had on you. Now it is your chance to give that experience back to others.
This training is not only about learning the structure of the workshops, lectures, and demonstrations — it is about discovering more of your magnificence as a human being and as a healer. Some Imago therapists have taken this training simply to deepen their understanding of the theory and to grow more fully into themselves.
Goal of Workshop Presenter Training
This course is designed to prepare the Certified Imago Therapist to present the “Getting the Love You Want” couples workshops. It begins with a five-day personal growth segment designed to help the clinician actualize their full potential as a presenter. The participant then offers a small GTLYW workshop between Modules 1 and 2, and between Modules 2 and 3, to clients from their practice, which they record and bring to each of the following WP Training three-day segments.
Certification Permissions
Once all certification requirements have been completed and certification has been granted, Certified GTLYW Workshop Presenters may:
- Represent themselves publicly as Certified GTLYW Workshop Presenters.
- Conduct Getting the Love You Want Workshops for couples.
- Have their workshops listed on the IRW and their ILO website.
- Present up to one-day seminars or lectures on Imago Relationship Therapy for educational and/or marketing purposes.
- Present one-day seminars or lectures to professionals on Imago Relationship Therapy for educational and/or marketing purposes, as long as it is clearly stated in all promotional material that the seminar or lecture is educational and is not considered a training or certification program.
- Receive information from the inquiry database for their ILO to market their workshops and have their workshops listed on the ILO website.
- Use IRW’s logo to market the Getting the Love You Want Workshop.
Admission Requirements:
Applicants must have practiced Imago Relationship Therapy as a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist. A minimum requirement regarding advanced training includes attendance at Characterological Growth plus two of the other four Core Advanced Trainings:
- Brilliant at the Basics
- Giving and Receiving
- From Despair to Repair
- The Attuned Therapist
Note: Credit will be given for the “Imago Singles Training” if attended prior to January 1, 2014.
Once the WP Training is completed, the therapist will, if not already, also automatically become an Advanced Clinician.
Important Note: Because in some regions the WP Training is not offered regularly, Imago Relationship Therapists who have not yet practiced for a full two years post certification or attended two advanced training courses may, at the discretion of the Clinical Instructor, enter the WP Training. However, these are exit requirements: they will not be certified or able to offer workshops to the general public (Workshops #3 and #4) until the requirements — attendance at Characterological Growth plus two other Advanced Imago training courses — are fulfilled.
The Applicant Must:
Have participated, or commit to participating before certification, as an assistant in at least one Getting the Love You Want: Workshop for Couples led by a Certified Workshop Presenter. We encourage participants to assist each other at each other’s workshops.
Course Requirements
- Attend all sessions of the formal 12-day training. If fewer than 2 days (16 hours) are missed, the missed time must be made up through individual (paid) supervision. If more than 2 days (16 hours) are missed, the participant will be required to redo the training.
- The first Module must be completed as an in-person, face-to-face training with a faculty member present. Any exception must be reviewed and approved by the WPF Circle.
- Complete all required reading.
- Organize and lead two GTLYW workshops (Workshop #1 and Workshop #2), each with at least two couples (ideally 3–5 couples). These workshops must draw from couples in the participant’s practice or personal communities and must not be advertised or marketed to the general public.
- At least 2-weeks before Workshop #1 (between Sessions 1 and 2): Trainees must write and submit a clear pathway document to their Clinical Instructor, which must include: a detailed agenda and timeline, visual aids (e.g., PowerPoint or posters), the full text of all lectures, the rationale for each lecture and its relevance to the couple’s connection, and an explanation of any material omitted and why. This document is not meant to be innovative, but to demonstrate mastery of the material. Personal illustrations are welcome, but the structure and content must remain aligned with the standard outline.
- Workshop #2 must be completed between Modules 2 and 3.
- If a trainee is unable to complete Workshop #1 and/or Workshop #2 during the training period, they must deliver them post-training and pay for 1–2 hours of individual supervision per workshop.
- Submit video excerpts from each workshop for supervision in the corresponding training sessions or during individual supervision.
- Execute a Workshop Presenter IP Agreement with IITI.
Post-Course Requirements
- Prior to certification as a Workshop Presenter, the WP candidate must, within 2 years of completing the formal course, fulfill the following:
- Lead two GTLYW couples workshops (Workshop #3 and Workshop #4). Upon completion of Workshop #4, the candidate must schedule a paid consultation with their instructor to review skills and collaboratively develop a plan to move forward toward certification.
- Workshop #4 must be observed onsite by a Certified WP Clinical Instructor, or recorded in its entirety (and translated into English if the faculty member does not speak the language of the trainee and participants). The Workshop Presenter Candidate is responsible for the travel expenses of the onsite observer and an honorarium for a minimum of five hours of observation and 1–2 hours of supervision.
- In exceptional circumstances, the observation and supervision may be conducted via Zoom.
- If travel is not feasible due to health measures or distance, the full workshop recording may be submitted to a Certified Clinical Instructor, who will review at least five hours of content selected at random. Supervision will then be completed via a Zoom appointment.
- Submit all participant feedback forms from all training workshops to the Course Instructor.
- Be a current member of the ILO. Note: A percentage of each workshop fee is remitted to the ILO in support of the Intellectual Property.
Ongoing Requirements for Certified Workshop Presenters
Besides #22 requirements to be a member of the ILO, Certified Workshop Presenters are strongly encouraged to remain actively engaged with their ILO and the WP Circle for ongoing training, community connection, and policy updates.
It is highly recommended that Workshop Presenters attend a WP Update meeting every two years, either at an Imago Conference or at a 4-hour Seminar on Workshop Dynamics offered by an IITI Faculty Member or a Senior Workshop Presenter who has attended recent updates and is informed about current policy.
NOTE: Keeping the Love You Find has additional training requirements and other Covered Workshops might have additional training required post GTLYW Certification.
