Jay Oh, Ph. D., is a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, Imago Clinical Instructor, and Faculty at Imago International Training Institute (IITI). Jay introduced Imago Relationship Therapy to South Korea by hosting Imago Clinical Training with Dr. Harville Hendrix, Dr. Wendy Patterson, and Mike Borash. South Korea has about 300 Certified Imago Therapists/ trainees and Couples Workshop Presenters/ trainees.
Dr. Jay Oh is the President of Daybreak University (DBU) in California. He also teaches Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) and Imago Relationship Therapy (IRT) at DBU. He holds master’s and doctorate degrees in Theology and Pastoral Counseling from Harvard University and the University of Toronto. He also received a Ph.D. in Counseling from the University of New England. He has completed the COAMFTE-accredited Post-Graduate MFT Program and AAMFT (American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy) Approved Clinical Supervisor training program. He also completed the Internship specializing in PTSD at the Rogers Memorial Hospital in Bedford, MA.
Jay was a former Associate Professor of Counseling Psychology at Soongsil University (the first established university in South Korea) and Baekseok University in South Korea. He was the Director of the Soongsil University Student Counseling Center, the Institute for Couples and Family Counseling (ICFC), and the Chief Editor of the Journal of Family and Counseling (JFC). He also taught as a Visiting Scholar of Couples and Family Therapy at the University of Oregon and a Visiting Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy at Kean University in New Jersey.
Dr. Oh founded the Korean Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (KAMFT), a national network of 60 nationwide counseling centers with 6,000 professional counselors and therapists. He is a frequent guest on television, such as KBS and EBS, where he has tried to make counseling known to the public by offering live counseling and special lectures. His book, I Love Myself the Way I Am (2009), became a national bestseller in South Korea. His publication was also selected as an outstanding scholarly work by the National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in South Korea. He also received the Best Teacher’s Award, the Best Lecture’s Award four times at Soongsil University, the Best Research Award, and the Best Research Supervisor Award from the National Council of Graduate Schools of Counseling and Psychotherapy (NCGSCP). His article was nominated as the best by the Journal of Marriage and Family Therapy (JMFT), the official academic journal of AAMFT. He also received the International Development Award and the Helen LaKelly Hunt Award for Community Building by Imago Relationships International (IRI).
